Membership includes Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The newly-formed AGCFF will hold Gulf Nations Cup tournaments in every odd year, starting in 2017, and a club competition every even year, starting in 2020. Already scheduled are the 23rd edition of the Gulf Nations Cup, which will be held in Qatar in 2017, followed by the 24th edition taking place in United Arab Emirates in 2019.
Speaking about the appointment as global advisor, MP & Silva’s CEO, Jochen Lösch, said:
“I’m honoured and delighted that MP & Silva has been selected to act as the long-term global advisor to the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation. It is an honour to co-develop the Gulf Cup with the AGCFF. This is an event with a strong history, and one that excites each country’s passionate fans. In addition, the new club competition has great potential, and it will inevitably prove hugely popular across the region. Having the opportunity to work as a long-term partner on both these competitions provides us with the opportunity to support the AGCFF’s long-term strategic ambitions and to use our international sports media and sponsorship expertise to help develop a successful, sustainable, and significant set of competitions.”
Speaking on the sideline of the signing ceremony, AGCFF President, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, said:
“For all of us who love football, we know the importance of the Gulf Nations Cup and its significance in our hearts for more than 40 years now. For this, together with our brothers from the GCC Football Associations, we established last year the AGCFF as the new home of GCC Football. With the mission to continuously improve and promote the game of football within the founding Member Associations and in light of the unifying and collective educational, cultural and humanitarian values that we all share, the AGCFF will manage the Gulf Nations Cup and a Combined Club Competitions championship with the purpose to add sports value to the region and achieve greater development in football.
“Today, we complete an important milestone in this process with the establishment of a long-term cooperation with one of the world’s leading international media rights companies, MP & Silva Group, as our strategic advisor in media and commercial rights. We are very happy for the creation of this cooperation framework and for the synergies that it will provide to AGCFF and to all our co-founding Member Associations.”
